A plastic sheet extrusion project should begin with one defined finished sheet. PP, PE, ABS, PC and PET differ in material preparation, process behavior, cooling, surface control and later converting, so a material list alone cannot define one machine configuration.
State whether the product is a rigid sheet, flexible roll, single layer or multilayer structure. Also identify what happens after extrusion, such as thermoforming, printing, laminating, fabrication or direct sale as sheet.
Typical equipment scope
- Resin handling, drying or dosing equipment when required
- Extruder or co-extrusion arrangement for the defined layer structure
- Screen changing and melt delivery equipment selected for the material process
- Sheet die and roll-stack or cooling section
- Edge trimming and scrap handling
- Winding, shearing, stacking or protective-film equipment as required
- Optional thickness inspection or downstream converting interfaces
The final quotation should separate standard line equipment, optional auxiliaries, tooling and buyer-supplied utilities.
Information needed for a proposal
- Resin type, grade and recycled-content plan
- Single-layer or multilayer sheet structure
- Finished width and thickness range
- Required roll diameter, sheet length or stacking format
- Surface, transparency, color and protective-film requirements
- Intended converting or final application
- Edge-trim reuse plan
- Target production rate
- Voltage, frequency and phase
- Cooling-water, compressed-air and workshop conditions
Frequently asked questions
Can one line process all five materials?
Do not assume that one configuration covers every resin and product. The extrusion, drying, roll, cooling and winding requirements must be checked against the actual production plan and changeover expectations.
When is co-extrusion required?
Provide the required layer count, material in each layer, thickness ratio and purpose. Co-extrusion should be selected from the finished sheet structure rather than added as a generic option.
Should the sheet be wound or cut?
That depends on thickness, stiffness, surface protection and the next process. State the final package format and how the sheet will be handled after the line.
