PE pipe projects can vary widely in diameter, wall thickness, layer structure and downstream handling. RUNNING MACHINE uses the finished pipe specification to define the extruder, tooling, cooling length, haul-off, cutting or coiling method and supporting equipment required for the proposed line.
A project involving small coiled pipe has different downstream needs from one producing larger straight lengths, so the layout must be based on the actual product plan.
Typical line scope
- Material feeding and preparation as required
- Main extruder and optional co-extruder for stripes or additional layers
- Die head, sizing tooling and change parts
- Vacuum calibration and cooling tanks
- Haul-off selected for the pipe range
- Cutter, coiler or stacking system
- Marking, measurement and auxiliary options when specified
Information needed for an accurate proposal
- PE resin grade and whether recycled material is planned
- Pipe application and product standard
- Minimum and maximum outside diameter
- SDR, pressure class or wall-thickness range
- Solid-wall, striped or multi-layer construction
- Straight-length or coiled-pipe delivery
- Target output and expected operating schedule
- Required printing, marking or measurement functions
- Local electrical supply and utility conditions
- Workshop length, width and access restrictions
Planning the downstream section
Cooling, pulling and finished-pipe handling often determine the usable line layout. Large wall sections may require more cooling capacity. Coiled products require a suitable coiler and coil specification. Straight pipe requires cutting length and safe transfer or stacking space.
Frequently asked questions
Can the line add a color stripe or an additional layer?
The scope can include co-extrusion when the pipe design requires it. Send the layer structure, material for each layer and stripe or color requirement.
Can existing factory auxiliaries be reused?
Possibly. Share the model, capacity, connections and condition of each available unit so compatibility can be reviewed rather than assumed.

Match a PE pipe extrusion line to the pipe range
A PE pipe extrusion line should be reviewed against a defined resin, pipe application, size and wall range. Include the applicable standard or drawing and identify the SDR or wall-thickness basis for the priority sizes. Also state whether the pipe is solid wall, striped or multilayer and whether the finished product will be supplied in coils or straight lengths. These choices change the extrusion arrangement, tooling, cooling, haul-off and final handling discussion.
Make cooling and finished-pipe handling part of the proposal
Compare the complete line boundary rather than the main extruder alone. Ask how the proposed sizing and cooling arrangement relates to the stated pipe range and workshop conditions. For coiled pipe, define coil dimensions, handling and the required winding result. For straight pipe, define cut length, marking and the available transfer or stacking area. Any stripe or additional layer should be shown separately with its material and thickness or visual requirement.
- Material: identify the resin grade and describe any planned recycled content for technical review.
- Pipe schedule: list the main combinations of diameter and wall or SDR that will be produced.
- Line boundary: separate feeding, extrusion, co-extrusion, tooling, cooling, haul-off, marking, cutting, coiling and stacking.
- Factory conditions: provide voltage, cooling-water conditions, compressed air, ambient limits and usable floor length.
- Trial basis: name the pipe size, material, wall, run period and measurements used to evaluate output and quality.
If existing auxiliaries are expected to remain in service, provide their nameplates, capacities, connection details and current condition. Compatibility should be reviewed against the proposed line rather than assumed from the equipment name.
Send the PE pipe project basis
Review the pipe-line selection guide before comparing layouts and use the factory acceptance checklist to agree the trial record. Send Mac Lee the resin, pipe standard, diameter and SDR range, layers or stripe, straight or coil format, output basis, destination and factory utilities.
