A plastic extrusion machine does not have one useful price without a defined product and equipment boundary. A quotation becomes meaningful when the supplier knows what you plan to make, the material, the size range, the required output and which upstream and downstream functions must be included.

This guide explains the main factors that change a quotation. It does not publish a generic price because an unsupported number can hide missing tooling, downstream equipment, utilities or project services.

1. Finished product and raw material

The finished product is the starting point. Pipe, hose, profile, sheet, board, strap and pellets require different process stages. Resin type, formulation, recycled content, fillers and moisture sensitivity can affect screw design, feeding, drying, mixing, filtration and temperature control.

Send a drawing, applicable standard or sample photo. State the material as precisely as possible and identify any formulation information that the machine supplier must consider.

2. Product dimensions and tooling range

A single nominal dimension is rarely enough. The minimum and maximum size, wall or thickness range, layer structure, profile geometry, tolerances and surface requirements determine the tooling and downstream design. A wider production range may require more tooling, change parts or a different equipment arrangement.

3. Output target and operating schedule

Target output affects more than the extruder. Cooling length, haul-off, cutting or winding, material supply and finished-product handling must support the same production goal. State whether your target is an hourly output, line speed, daily production quantity or shift plan, and identify the product size used for that target.

4. Included equipment scope

Two quotations can have different totals because they include different boundaries. Ask each supplier to separate the main process equipment from tooling, material preparation, utilities, downstream handling and optional functions.

5. Control, inspection and automation

Describe the functions you need and the product requirements they must support. Avoid selecting an automation item only by name; define the result you expect it to achieve.

6. Factory conditions and destination

Voltage, frequency, phase, ambient conditions, cooling-water quality, compressed air, available floor space and lifting access can affect the proposed configuration. Destination and delivery terms also affect packing, documentation and commercial scope. These details should appear in the request for quotation rather than being resolved after an order.

Why supplier quotations may differ

A lower total may reflect a smaller equipment boundary, different tooling quantity, a different output basis or fewer project services. Compare proposals line by line and record every exclusion and assumption. The useful comparison is the equipment scope against the same product requirement.
